John Mathieson (cinematographer)

John Mathieson ( May 3, 1961 in Purbeck ) is a British cinematographer. He often collaborates with director Ridley Scott and has been awarded several times for his work. He received two Oscar nominations among others.

Life

He began his career in the British film industry as a camera assistant Gabriel Beristáin. In 1988 received great appreciation for the music video " Peek-a -Boo " for the rock band Siouxsie & the Banshees. He worked with, among others, John Maybury and was for the film Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of active Francis Bacon as a cameraman. In the 1990s he made ​​some music videos for artists such as Madonna, Prince and Massive Attack.

In 1998, he was responsible for the visual effects in the film Public Enemy No. 1. Mathieson worked in four films for Ridley Scott, in which he was nominated for an Oscar for Gladiator and the British Academy Film Award in the category Best Cinematography. He received his second Oscar nomination in 2004 for the film The Phantom of the Opera.
