John Maxton

John Alston Maxton, Baron Maxton, of Blackwater Foot in Ayrshire and Arran ( born May 5, 1936) is a British Labour Party politician, who more than 22 years, Member of the House of Commons was, and since 2004 as a Life Peer Member of the House of Lords.

Life

Maxton, the 1970 member of the Labour Party, was first elected in the general election on May 3, 1979 Member in the House of Commons and represented there until the elections on 7 June 2001, more than 22 years, the constituency of Glasgow Cathcart.

During his long parliamentary membership, he was from 1981 to 1983 first as a member of the House Committee on Scotland and then from 1983 to 1984 of the House Committee on Public Konton before he was spokesman for the opposition Labour Group for Health, Local Government and Housing in Scotland between 1985 and 1987. After Maxton served as opposition spokesman for Scotland between 1987 and 1992, he was from 1992 to 1997 a member of the House Committee on the national heritage. Most recently he was chairman of the circle of the speaker ( Speaker) of the House and at the same time from 1997 to 2001 member of the House Committee on Culture, Media and Sport during his deputies activity between 1994 and 2001 a member.

By Letters Patent of 17 June 2004 Maxton was raised as a life peer with the title Baron Maxton, of Blackwater Foot in Ayrshire and Arran to the peerage. Shortly afterwards carried on 7 July 2004 his Introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords. In the upper house he belongs to the Group of the Labour Party.

Maxtons uncle was the politician James Maxton, the constituency of Glasgow Bridgeton as an MP in the House was of 1922-1946 and 1926-1931, and again from 1934 to 1939 Chairman of the Independent Labour Party (ILP ).
