John McCarthy (ice hockey)
John McCarthy ( born August 9, 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an American professional ice hockey player. Since 2009 he plays for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and their farm team, the Worcester Sharks in the American Hockey League on the position of the left winger.
Career
McCarthy played during his youth until 2004, first in the high school team at St. John's Prep School. In autumn 2004, he then joined the Des Moines Buccaneers of the U.S. Junior League United States Hockey League. He reached in 60 matches 18 points scorer before he transferred to the College. In the 2005/06 season, the left winger played parallel to his studies in Economics for the ice hockey team from Boston University. As a rookie, he completed 32 of 40 season games and won at the end of the season the championship of the Hockey East, a division in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. He contributed to at four points scorer. Then McCarthy was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 in the seventh round at 202 instead of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. The following two seasons was the striker regular player at the University of team, but could put little emphasis on the offensive. After completing his third year college were in 109 games only 16 points to book. Nevertheless, he was elected to two years into the All- Academic team of the Hockey East.
In his last year at Boston University, the American his studies completed successfully. In addition, he was appointed captain of the team.
