John McCarthy (Nebraska politician)

John Jay McCarthy ( born July 19, 1857 in Stoughton, Dane County, Wisconsin, † March 30, 1943 in Ponca, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1903 and 1907 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John McCarthy attended the public schools of his home and the Albion Academy in his home state of Wisconsin. In 1879 he moved to David City, Nebraska. After studying law and his 1884 was admitted to the bar he began in Emerson to work in his new profession. In the years 1890, 1892 and 1894, he was elected district attorney in Dixon County. McCarthy was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1898 and 1900 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Nebraska.

1902 John McCarthy was selected in the third district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he broke on March 4, 1903 from the Democrat John Seaton Robinson, whom he had defeated in the election. After a re-election in 1904, McCarthy was able to implement his mandate in Congress until March 3, 1907. For the elections of 1906 he was not nominated by his party. In 1912 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention. After he retired from politics. In the following years until his death in 1943, he worked as a lawyer in Ponca.
