John McConnell Rice

John McConnell Rice ( born February 19, 1831 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky; † 18 September 1895 in Louisa, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1869 and 1873 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Rice received only a limited primary education. After a subsequent law studies at the Louisville Law School in 1853 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Pikeville to work in this profession. In 1854 he became inspector in Pike County. Two years later, in 1856, he worked in the same district as a prosecutor.

Politically, Rice member of the Democratic Party. In the years 1858 and 1861 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Kentucky. Since 1860 he lived in Louisa. In the congressional elections of 1868 he was in the ninth constituency of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Samuel McKee on March 4, 1869. After a re-election in 1870 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1873 two legislative sessions.

1872 John Rice gave up another run for the U.S. House of Representatives. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer in Louisa. In 1883 he was appointed in Lawrence County Judge of the Criminal Court. This office he held until his death on September 18, 1895 in Louisa.
