John McCulloch (congressman)

John McCulloch ( * November 15, 1806 in McCulloch's Mills, Pennsylvania, † May 15, 1879 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. From 1853 to 1855 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John McCulloch attended the public schools of his home and then to 1825 the Jefferson College in Canonsburg. After a subsequent medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania and his 1829 was admitted as a doctor, he began to work in Green Tree in this profession. In 1830 he moved his practice and his residence to St. Petersburg in Huntingdon County. Until 1852 he worked there as a doctor. Politically, he was a member of the Whig party.

In the congressional elections of 1852 McCulloch was in the 18th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded John Littleton Dawson took on March 4, 1853, who moved to another district. Since he resigned in 1854 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1855. This was marked by the events leading up to the Civil War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John McCulloch practiced as a doctor in Huntingdon. After the dissolution of the Whigs, he joined the Republican Party. In 1874 he was a delegate to a constitutional convention in his home state. John McCulloch died on 15 May 1879 in Huntingdon, where he was also buried.
