John McNulta

John McNulta ( born February 9, 1837 in New York City; † February 22, 1900 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John McNulta enjoyed a university education. In his youth, he toured the West Indies and Europe. From 1853 to 1859 he lived in Attica ( Indiana) and from 1859 in Bloomington (Illinois ). At that time he worked as a cigar manufacturer. During the Civil War he served in the army of the Union, where he rose to colonel. After studying law and his 1865 was admitted to the bar he began in Bloomington to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. From 1869 to 1873 he was a member of the Illinois Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1872 McNulta was elected in the 13th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded the Democrat John M. Crebs on March 4, 1873. Since he has not been confirmed in 1874, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1875. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John McNulta again practiced as a lawyer. He died on February 22, 1900 in Washington, and was buried in Bloomington.
