John Meillon

John Meillon OBE ( born May 1, 1934 in Mosman, Sydney, † August 11 1989 in Mosman ) was an Australian actor.

Life

John Meillon began his artistic career at the age of eleven years in the NBC radio series Stumpy. He made his first stage experience in the following year. At 16 he joined the Shakespeare Touring Company. Like many actors of his generation, he went to England 1959-1965.

He was early often seen in internationally important films, including Stanley Kramer's On the Beach ( On the Beach, 1959), Fred Zinnemann's The Sundowners ( The Sundowners, 1960) and Walkabout ( Walkabout, 1971) by Nicolas Roeg. All these films played in Australia. His world's most famous appearance was as Walter Reilly in addition to the main actors Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski in the Australian hit comedy Crocodile Dundee - A crocodile Kiss the Girls from the year 1986.

In 1979 he was awarded for his services to the theater of Queen Elizabeth II with the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire ( OBE).

John Meillon was 1958-1971 married to June Salter. This marriage comes from the Australian actor John Meillon Jr.. 1972 he married his second wife Rita Gibson, with whom he also has a son. In 1989 he died at the age of 55 from liver disease.
