John Mensah

John Mensah ( born November 29, 1982 in Obuasi ) is a Ghanaian football player.

The defender John Mensah was like so many young players as a teenager to Italy to become a professional footballer and played from 1999 to 2000 at a youth club in Bologna. He received his first contract in Switzerland in 2001 at AC Bellinzona, where he graduated, however, only eight games and moved to the season for Genoa CFC. Other stations in Italy were Chievo Verona, Modena FC and U.S. Cremonese. From January 2006 he played in France at Stade Rennes.

For the season 2008/ 09 Mensah was transferred for a fee of 8.4 million euros to the French champions Lyon. There he was given a contract until 2013, and wore the shirt number 12, since he in the course could not secure a regular place, he was awarded in August 2009 to the English first division club FC Sunderland.

Due to the lack of opportunities on a regular place in Lyon Mensah on loan for another season at Sunderland. This time, however, was written a call option in the loan agreement, which automatically enter into force after 25 completed games for the Premier League club. After he returned to Lyon in the summer of 2011, a long-lasting injury put him out of action, so he could hardly be used in the following season. In summer 2012, he finished his contract in France and returned to his homeland. There he stands in Accra Hearts of Oak under contract.

Since 2001, John Mensah national team for Ghana. He participated in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and belonged to the squad of Ghana at the Soccer World Cup 2006 in Germany and at the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
