John Miller Adye

Sir John Miller Adye GCB ( born 1 November 1819 in Sevenoaks, Kent; † August 26, 1900 ) was a British general.

Life

John Miller Adye was educated at the military school Woolwich and entered 1836 in the artillery. He participated in the Crimean War and the struggle against the Indian rebels in part as Adjutant General of Artillery. Next, he took part in Afghanistan from 1863 to 1864 on Sitanafeldzug. 1875 Adye Major-General and Governor of the Military Academy in Woolwich and in 1881 Lieutenant - General.

In 1882 he accompanied Garnet Joseph Wolseley as Chief of Staff in the Egyptian campaign and was appointed on the governor of Gibraltar.
