John Miller Baer

John Miller Baer ( born March 29, 1886 in Black Creek, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, † February 18, 1970 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1917 and 1921 he represented the first electoral district of the State of North Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

John Baer attended the public schools of his home and then to 1909 the Lawrence University in Appleton. In 1909 he moved to the village Beach in Golden Valley County (North Dakota). There he worked among others in agriculture. He also presented cartoons ago and published newspaper articles. From 1909 to 1915 he was postmaster in Beach.

Political career

Baer was a member of the Republican Party. After the death of Congressman Henry Thomas Helgesen, he was elected in a by-election as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives. After he was confirmed in his office in the regular congressional elections of 1918, he was able to exercise the mandate between 20 July 1917 and 3 March 1921. In Congress, he was chairman of the Committee for the control of the expenditure of the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1920, he was not nominated and therefore resigned in March 1921 from the Congress of.

After the end of his service in the House of Representatives Baer worked as a cartoonist and as a journalist. He no longer exercised political office. He died in February 1970 in Washington.
