John Mills

Sir John Mills CBE ( born February 22, 1908 in Felixstowe, Suffolk, United Kingdom Lewis Ernest Watts Mills, † 23 April 2005 in Denham, Buckinghamshire, UK ) was a British actor. He won the 1971 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Life

John Mills began his acting career in 1927 and since then has been on the stage. His age blindness from 1990 could not deter from its representational work him until his death. His film career began in the early 1930s and continued thereafter unabated. He was one of Britain's most popular actors. In 1971, Mills was awarded the Golden Globe and Oscar for his role of the village idiot Michael in David Lean " Ryan's Daughter".

Mills was 1927-1941 with Aileen Raymond, then married his second wife, Mary Hayley Bell. 2001 renewed he and his wife, because Mills served their vows at St. Mary's Church where they live Denham, since they could not be married in the church in 1941 at this time as a soldier in World War II after 60 years of marriage at the age of 89 and 92 years.

His two daughters, Juliet Mills ( born November 21, 1941) and Hayley Mills ( born April 18, 1946) are well-known British actresses. His son, Jonathan Mills was born on 3 December 1949. Mills ' wife Mary died on 1 December 2005, almost eight months after her husband.

During the 60 years the family lived in Hollywood, as daughter Hayley had a successful career as a child star. After this time, returned to England. 1960 Mills was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a Commander of the British Empire in 1976 eventually knighted.
