John Morse Haydon

John Morse Haydon ( born January 27, 1920 in Billings, Montana, † 1991) is a former American politician. Between 1969 and 1974 he was Governor of American Samoa.

Career

John Haydon studied at the University of Washington. During the Second World War he was a lieutenant in the Air Corps of the United States Army. He flew 35 combat missions over Germany. Between 1960 and 1969 he was a member of the Seattle Port Commission, as its president, he served in the years 1963, 1968 and 1969. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. He was also a member of the consulting staff of the governor of Washington, Daniel J. Evans, on Fisheries (1965-1967) and for Trade and Economic Development ( 1965-1969 ).

On August 1, 1969 John Haydon was appointed as successor to Owen Aspinall as the new Governor of American Samoa. This post he held until October 14, 1974. Afterwards it is no longer politically have appeared.
