John Norum

John Terry Norum ( born February 23, 1964 in Vardo, Norway) is a Swedish guitarist of the Swedish hard rock band Europe, which he founded in 1979 together with singer Joey Tempest.

Career

Norum and Tempest grew up in Stockholm County in Upplands Väsby. Norum played on the first three albums Europe. In November 1986, he left the band due to creative differences. He was unhappy with the keyboard -heavy production of the album The Final Countdown, and with the new, commercial Hairspray metal image of the band.

His first solo album, Total Control, appeared in 1987. Among other things, it contained the title written by Vinnie Vincent Back on the Streets, which had been published in 1986 by Vincent Vinnie Vincent Invasion band on their debut album. Norum published since then numerous other studio and live albums.

Dokken

When Dokken in 1988 for the first time separated and Don Dokken put together a new band, Norum accepted the offer to play for him. For legal reasons, Don Dokken could not use the old band name on and decided to make his own name on. The Don Dokken Band was next to him from Norum, the ex - Watchtower guitarist Billy White, the former bassist Peter Baltes and Accept the ex - King Diamond drummer Mikkey Dee. The 1990 released album Up from the Ashes in the U.S. reached the 50th place in the charts and remained the only one in the band. After a tour of Japan, the musician parted again.

In the years 2001 and 2002 Norum worked again for Don Dokken, but this time as a member of the band Dokken, where he replaced Reb Beach, the band, the album Long Way Home recorded. During the following tour Norum injured her arm and had to cancel the concert tour. He was replaced by Alex DeRosso.

UFO

1995 replaced Norum Michael Schenker in UFO, but there was no fruitful cooperation because Schenker prevented for contractual reasons that the band could use the name UFO without him.

Europe- Reunion

Since the reunion of Europe in 2003 is Norum again member of the band and took with them in the years that followed the album Start From The Dark (2004), Secret Society (2006), Almost Unplugged (2006), Last Look at Eden (2009 ) and Bag of Bones (2012 ) on. But he is still active as a solo artist and released the 2010 blues album Play Yard Blues.

Nordic Beast

From January 2014 he is he will go with his colleague Mic Michaeli and his ex-colleagues Mikkey Dee under the name Nordic Beast on tour. Other members are Hal Patino ( King Diamond, bass) and Åge Sten Nilsen ( Wig Wam, vocals).

Private

Norum spends the summer in Sweden and in the winter in Los Angeles / California. He was married from 1995 until her death, with the guitarist and singer Michelle Meldrum - Norum. She was also a guitarist and played with the band Meldrum. From his late wife Norum has a son named Jake Thomas, who was born in October 2004.
