John of Luxembourg, Count of Soissons

John of Luxembourg (French: Jean de Luxembourg * to 1436, † June 22, 1476 in Murten ) out of the house Luxembourg - Ligny was Count of Marle and Soissons and Burgundian troops leader.

John's parents were Louis I of Luxembourg, Gf. Saint-Pol († 1475 ) and Joan of Bar After his mother's death in 1462 he inherited the counties of Marle and Soissons.

He served the dukes of Burgundy, Philip the Good and Charles the Bold, as a troop leader. Duke Charles appointed him in 1471 the leader of the rearguard in the Burgundian army and in 1473 he was inducted into the Order of the Golden Fleece. On June 22, 1476 Johann fell during the Battle of Murten. Since he died unmarried, his estate passed to his brother Peter II.
