John P. Hammond

John Paul Hammond ( born November 13, 1942 in New York City ), also known under the name " John Hammond Jr. ', is an American blues singer and guitarist. He is the son of the famous music producers and talent scouts John H. Hammond. But he did not grow up with his father since his parents separated, and he saw his father only a few times a year.

Life

He began playing the guitar while attending a private high school and was particularly influenced by the slide- guitar playing of Jimmy Reed, he heard live theater at the Apollo. John Hammond heard since the beginning of the 1960s, one of the outstanding figures of acoustic blues. Some critics even referred to him as the white Robert Johnson. Not without reason, because Hammond combines powerful guitar and harmonica playing with an expressive voice and a dignified stage presence. He discovered for himself the niche of guitar player with harmonica, the classic blues from the 30s, 40s and 50s plays. Recordings from the 90s, but also prove the skills Hammonds as a band leader and electric guitarist.

Since his debut album, released in 1963 on Vanguard Records, John P. Hammond has recorded a total of 33 LPs. In 1985, he received a Grammy Award and has been nominated for four more. Finally, the album " Rough & Tough " has been released.
