John P. McConnell

John Paul McConnell ( born February 7, 1908 in Booneville, Arkansas, † November 21, 1986 in Bethesda, Maryland) was an American general in the U.S. Air Force and most recently Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Life

After schooling studied the son of a physician at Henderson Brown College and graduated in 1927 with a Bachelor of Science (BS ) from. His training at the United States Military Academy at West Point, he finished in 1932 and then joined the U.S. Army Air Forces and there rose to become a general.

After 1950-1953 Commander of the Third Air Force, and at times was also commander of the 7th Air Division, he was Planning Director of the Strategic Air Command ( SAC) at the Offutt Air Force Base in Sarpy County. In 1957 he became commander of the Second Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City and in 1961 deputy commander of SAC.

In 1962 he was appointed Deputy Supreme Commander ( Deputy Commander -in- Chief ) of the U.S. European Command, before he was 1964-1965 Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force ( VCSAF ). Last time was General McConnell from 1 February 1965 to 31 July 1969 Chief of Staff of the Air Force and thus the highest ranking officer in the U.S. Air Force.
