John P. Swasey

John Philip Swasey ( born September 4, 1839 in Canton, Oxford County, Maine, † May 27, 1928 ) was an American politician. Between 1908 and 1911 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Swasey attended the public schools of his home, including the Maine State Seminary. He then studied at Tufts College in Medford ( Massachusetts). During the Civil War he was temporarily lieutenant in an infantry unit from Maine. After studying law and its made ​​in 1863 admitted to the bar he began in Canton to work in his new profession.

In the years 1866 and 1867 Swasey town clerk and treasurer was in Canton; 1868 to 1870 he was district attorney in Oxford County. At the same time he also worked for the tax authority. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In 1874 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Maine, from 1875 to 1876 he was a member of the State Senate. Following the resignation of Congressman Charles E. Littlefield Swasey was born on November 3, 1908 in the second electoral district of Maine as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected.
