John Paintsil

John Paintsil ( often mistakenly John Pantsil, born June 15, 1981 in Berekum, Ghana ) is a Ghanaian football player. The defender was last August 2012 to February 2013 at Hapoel Tel Aviv under contract.

Career

In the club

Paintsil began his career at Berekum Arsenal, where he stood until 2000 under contract. In the 2000 /01 season he moved briefly to the Liberty Professionals. He then played again for half a year for Berekum Arsenal and then went to Widzew Łódź. In Poland, however, Paintsil was only for six months and moved in summer 2002 to Israel Maccabi Tel Aviv and two years later to Hapoel Tel Aviv. In summer 2006, he moved again to the Premier League for West Ham United. Together with his team-mate Bobby Zamora Paintsil was in the summer of 2008 transferred the " total package" for around eight million euros to city rivals Fulham.

In summer 2011 it was announced that Paintsil free transfer to the English second division Leicester City replaced.

In the National Team

On 5 December 2001 Paintsil played his first international match against Algeria for the Ghanaian national football team. Since then he has played a total of 56 matches.

Paintsil has participated with the Ghanaian national football team at the 2004 Olympic Games, the football World Cup in 2006, and at the African Cup of Nations 2008.

In a game of the Ghanaian national team, he won after a hit an Israeli national flag out of his pants and made thus for excitement.

Name spelling

Due to a clerical error in the transfer documents prior to joining Hapoel Tel Aviv at West Ham United his last name is incorrectly given as " Pantsil ". Previous entries in the English FA were unsuccessful. The only correct spelling of his name is John Paintsil.
