John Palmer (composer)

John Palmer ( born 1959 ) is a British composer, pianist and musicologist.

John Palmer studied piano in Zurich and at the Lucerne School of Music at Grazia Wendling and Eve Serman, where he received his diploma in piano. He attended composition courses at Edison Vasilievich Denisov and Vinko Globokar. His postgraduate studies took him back to London, first at Trinity College of Music, where he received his Fellowship Diploma in composition, then. At the Royal Holloway University of London and at the City University London, where he received his doctorate in composition specialist He also studied conducting with Alan Hazeldine at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and analysis of Jonathan Cross at the University of Bristol. Palmer participated in further studies with Vinko Globokar on International Masterclasses in Dartington, England, in part. Then he dealt particularly with the music of Jonathan Harvey, whom he consulted regularly for two years. In the 1970s, John Palmer was very active as a pianist in chamber of improvisation and experimental music. Since 1980, he has many works for orchestra and various chamber music ensembles, and composes instrumental, choral and electro-acoustic music. Performances and concert activities as a composer, pianist, and conductor Klangprojektionist have taken him to Europe, America and Asia. Since 1992 he has been a regular guest professor at various universities and conferences in Europe and North America. 1990 to 1995 he was a lecturer at the University of Oxford from 1995 to 2000 and Senior Lecturer in Composition at the University of Hertfordshire, where he was also director of research. Since 2000 he is professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart.
