John Pankow

John Pankow ( born April 28, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri ) is an American actor.

Life

Pankow grew up as the sixth of nine children in Chicago. He began studying drama at Northeastern Illinois University, but after he had seen the play American Buffalo by David Mamet at the St. Nicholas Theater, he broke off his studies and began a two-year internship in the ensemble of this theater. On a visit to New York in 1980 before he spoke for a role in the television drama Life on the Mississippi, and was occupied. He played in a number of off-Broadway productions and Shakespeare productions of the New York Shakespeare Festival. He has also played on Broadway, where he was from 1980 to 1983 Tim Curry's replacement as Mozart in Peter Shaffer Amadeus.

Pankow joined in the subsequent period in a series of films known directors, on: Under William Friedkin he played in the action thriller Live and Die in LA (1985 ) the role of a Secret Service agent who together with his partner ( William L. Petersen ) a counterfeiter ( Willem Dafoe ) hunts. The crime movie Mortal Thoughts ( 1991) by Alan Rudolph played Pankow on the side of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. He also had roles in films by Herbert Ross ( The secret of my success ), George A. Romero ( Monkey Shines ), Oliver Stone ( Talk Radio ), John Frankenheimer ( Year of the Gun ) and Sidney Lumet ( Gentle eyes do not lie, on the side of Melanie Griffith ).

In television series Pankow was most common in supporting roles. From 1993 to 1999 he served as Ira Buchman in the sitcom Mad About You to see ( Mad About You ) on the side of Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt. For this role he was nominated as a member of the actor ensemble in the years 1997 and 1998 for the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Since 2004, Pankow returned to Broadway (including in Twelve Angry Men, nominated for the Tony Award for Best Production of the Year ).

Pankow is married to actress Kristine Sutherland since 1986, the couple has a child.
