John Parker (Continental Congress)

John Parker ( * June 24, 1759 in Charleston, South Carolina, † April 20, 1832 in Charleston ) was an American politician, who participated as a delegate from South Carolina to the Continental Congress.

Initially he first received his education in his native South Carolina, John Parker went to England and graduated at the Middle Temple in London. He then returned to America, was admitted to the bar in 1785 and commenced practice as a lawyer in Charleston. In addition, he ran near his hometown of a plantation, on which he cultivated rice.

From 1786 to 1788, Parker participated in the meetings of the Continental Congress, which met without exception at this time in New York City. Then he settled back in Charleston, where he took care of his possessions " Hayes " and " Cedar Grove ". He died in April 1832 and was buried in the Hayes estate in Goose Creek.
