John Patrick Shanley

John Patrick Shanley ( born October 3, 1950 the Bronx in New York City ) is an American theater and screenwriter, he is also active as a theater and film director.

Career

Shanley was taught in a private Catholic school by members of the Christian religious Christian Brothers and Sisters of Charity. In 1977, he graduated from New York University.

For the screenplay for the film Moonstruck Shanley won the Academy Award and a Writers Guild of America Award. For the play Doubt he was awarded the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for drama and a Tony for best play. In 2008 he filmed the fabric under the title question of faith for the big screen with Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams in the lead roles. The film script earned him, among other nominations for the Golden Globe Award and Academy Award.
