John Perry Barlow

John Perry Barlow ( born October 3, 1947 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming) is an American former rancher and former songwriter for the rock band the Grateful Dead, which at the podium of the World Economic Forum in Davos, announced the independence of cyberspace on 8 February 1996.

Life

In 1990 he founded together with Mitchell Kapor, the Electronic Frontier Foundation. He is regarded as a follower of Technolibertarismus.

John Perry Barlow is committed to a free Internet, civil rights and freedom of speech, and represents these views to lectures, presentations and discussions, among others at TWiT Live, TedxHamburg, Hamburg, Internet Society ( NY Chapter, New York), the USC Center on Public Diplomacy.
