John Phillips (mayor)

John Phillips ( * November 26, 1770, † May 29, 1823 ) was an American politician who is best known as the first mayor of Boston today. He held this position from 1 May 1822 to 29 May 1823. He was also a judge at the Court of Common Pleas.

He was married to Sally Walley. They are parents of the abolitionist Wendell Phillips.

According to John Phillips, the Phillips School was named on the corner of Pinckney and Anderson Street in Boston. It was completed in 1825.
