John Plant (ethnologist)

John Plant (born 1954 in New Haven, Connecticut) is an American anthropologist, biologist and expert on the culture of the Plains Indians.

Life

John Plant studied anthropology at Windham College in Putney (Vermont, USA) with a BA (1976) and biology at Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven (Connecticut, USA) with the degree BS (1978). His studies in biology, he continued at the Albert- Ludwigs- University of Freiburg, received his diploma in 1985. Subsequently Plant research on Contra Ries and clowns at the Plain Indians. With this dissertation, he was phil at the Institute of Ethnology of the Albert- Ludwigs- University of Freiburg in 1994 Dr. Ulrich Köhler and Lothar cheese. doctorate.

Research

Since 1998, John Plant is a research associate in the Department of Evolutionary Biology ( Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Vienna) with a research focus on bees and their phylogeny. Simultaneously he continued his dissertation started with the ethnological research on the Plains Indians, especially for Heyoka phenomenon. 2010 John Plant has this summarized results under the title The Plains Indian Clowns, Their Contra Ries and related Phenomena and made available online.
