John Porter (ice hockey)

John Chester "Red" Porter ( born January 21, 1904 in Toronto, Ontario, † unknown ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1928 he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

John Porter began his career as a hockey player with 17 years with a team of junior league of the Ontario Hockey Association. From 1926 to 1928 he played for the Toronto Varsity level, with which in 1927 the Allan Cup, the Canadian amateur championship titles won. The following year he took the degree Varsity Canada at the Olympic Winter Games. Following the tournament, he was from 1928 to 1931 head coach of the seniors team from the University of Toronto.

Internationally

For Canada, Porter participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1928 partly in St. Moritz, where he won the gold medal with his team. At the Winter Games he was captain of Canada. He was also a standard bearer for the Canadian winter athletes at the opening ceremony.
