John Powell

John Powell ( born September 18, 1963) is a born in England composer for film music.

Biography

He studied at Trinity College of Music, London, viola and composition with Richard Arnell and won several awards. He then worked as a composer for commercials. In 1980 he wrote the first film score for the publisher 's Air-Edel Music in the house Independently Thinking Music. In 1985 he founded together with Gavin Greenaway and Michael Petry Media Arts Group. He composed film music soundtracks except for art installations by Petry, which were shown in exhibitions in Europe, the USA and Japan. 1997 John Powell moved to the U.S. and worked with composers such as Harry Gregson- Williams, Patrick Doyle and Hans Zimmer. In 2011 he was awarded for the animated film How to Train Your Dragon his first Oscar nomination.
