John R. Allen

John R. Allen ( * December 15, 1953 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia ) is a retired four- star general in the United States Marine Corps. From July 18, 2011 until February 10, 2013 he was commander of the International Security Assistance Force ( ISAF).

Training

John R. Allen attended the Flint Hill School in Oakton (Virginia ), and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Operations Analysis 1976. In 1998 he received the National War College graduate with honors. Allen graduated from the Georgetown University a Master of Arts in National Security Studies, a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence at the Defense Intelligence College, and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy at the National War College.

ISAF Commander in Afghanistan

Since July 18, 2011 General Allen commanded as successor to General David Petraeus, the International Security Assistance Force ( ISAF). He was nominated to take over the post of Supreme Allied Commander Europe ( SACEUR ) to NATO in early 2013; the decision on the said occupation meets regularly to the U.S. Senate. On November 13, 2012 about a week after the electoral victory of Barack Obama, told U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, that the appointment of SACEUR will be postponed. Media reported that the Pentagon Allen's communication with a woman looks that was a friend of Allen's predecessor David Petraeus. Petraeus was four days earlier resigned from his post as head of the CIA. Allen should have sent " inappropriate " e-mails. The spokesman for the Pentagon, George Little, announced on 22 January 2013 that the investigation has no anti-social behavior was found. Nearly a month later, in mid February 2013, Allen withdrew his candidacy for the SACEUR post back. He wanted to end his military career and take care of health problems in his family.

Early 2013 recommended Allen of the U.S. government, according to media to keep in a possible withdrawal of U.S. forces after 2014 from about 6000 to 15,000 troops to secure the country in Afghanistan.

Although originally intended for the post of Supreme Allied Commander Europe ( SACEUR ), Allen was transferred at his own request on 19 February 2013 retirement.
