John R. Ross

John Robert " Haj " Ross ( born May 7, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an American linguist. Ross was instrumental in the development of generative semantics, and worked in this context with George Lakoff. Ross is also known for his work on scrambling and gapping of generative perspective as well as for the coined term of his category squish that for a smooth transition in distinguishing syntactic categories in the languages ​​of the world (cf. speech) and against a discrete distinctness, argues primarily in the area of the distinction between noun and verb.
