John Ramsbottom (engineer)

John Ramsbottom ( born September 11, 1814 Todmorden, † May 20, 1897 ) was an English inventor who was known in particular by the that he invented safety valves for steam boilers.

Life

Ramsbottom worked for several British railway companies as an engineer and invented in 1852 split seal rings, in 1856 was named after him safety valve, in 1861 a water intake for driving steam locomotives, in 1864, a wedge system for the redistribution of friction weight on a plurality of support shafts, ventilation systems for railway tunnels and much more.
