John Reilly (Pennsylvania)

John Reilly ( born February 22, 1836 in Abnerville, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, † April 19, 1904 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Reilly was initially educated at home and then attended the common schools. After that, he was active in the railroad business. Since 1854 he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. From 1865 and 1875 he served as Superintendent of Transportation whose transport department. From 1871 to 1873 he was also President of the Bells Gap Railroad Co. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. In the years 1872 and 1873 he sat in the council of Altoona.

In the congressional elections of 1874 Reilly was in the 17th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert Milton Speer on March 4, 1875. Since he has not been confirmed in 1876, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1877. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Reilly worked again in the railway industry. Between 1877 and 1885 he headed again the transport department of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Since 1881 he lived in Philadelphia, where he was active in various other sectors later. There he is on the April 19, 1904 and passed away.
