John Robert Nicholson

Robert John ( "Jack" ) Nicholson, PC, OBE, QC ( born December 1, 1901 in Newcastle (now Miramichi ), New Brunswick, † October 8, 1983 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian lawyer, managers and politicians. From 1962 to 1968 he was Liberal deputy in the House and held several ministerial posts in the government of Lester Pearson. Subsequently, he was until 1973 Vice- Governor of the Province of British Columbia.

Biography

Nicholson studied law at Dalhousie University in Halifax. In 1924 he moved to Vancouver, opened a law office there and became one of the most prominent lawyers of the city. After the outbreak of the Second World War he worked in the service of the Federal Government as Deputy Controller of the Ministry of Munitions and Supply. From 1942 to 1951 Nicholson Executive Director, State Polymer Corporation, the synthetic rubber was produced. He then spent 1952 to 1956 in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Light and Power Company.

At the general election in 1962 Nicholson ran for a seat in the House of Commons and won the constituency Vancouver Centre. As the Liberal Party in April 1963 won the vorgezeogenen elections, Prime Minister Lester Pearson appointed him to the Forestry Minister. In February 1964 he took over the leadership of the Ministry of Post, February to December 1965, he was immigration minister. He then headed to April 1968, the Ministry of Labour, after which he resigned.

Governor General Roland Michener sworn Nicholson on July 2, 1968 as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. This representative office he held until March 19, 1973.
