John Runnings

John Runnings ( * 1918 in Manitoba, † 25 April 2004 in Canada) was known as " wallcreeper " (English wall walker ) or wall jumpers.

Runnings occurred in 1962 with his wife because of the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, the community of faith of the Quakers in Seattle at, as these active peace movement mittrugen (See the article Quäkerzeugnis and Peace Church ). After the U.S. troop withdrawal, he protested against the arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union.

In 1986 he had climbed with a home-made ladder in front of the cameras, the Berlin Wall from West Berlin and edited top of the wall with a sledgehammer. He was pulled from the East German border guards, condemned by the justice of the GDR to 18 months in prison, released after three months and flown from Berlin. A custom built by him ram wall can be seen in the Checkpoint Charlie Museum.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he was also named "Father of the wall woodpeckers ".
