John S. McGroarty

John Steven McGroarty ( born August 20, 1862 Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, † August 7, 1944 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American politician. Between 1935 and 1939 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John McGroarty attended the common schools and the Harry Hillman Academy, Wilkes - Barre. In the years 1890-1893 he was treasurer in Luzerne County. After studying law and his 1894 was admitted to the bar he began in Wilkes-Barre to work in this profession. Soon after, he moved to Montana, where he worked for the Anaconda Copper Mining Co. 1896-1901. In 1901, he settled in Los Angeles and found a job as a journalist. As a writer, he wrote several books and dramas. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1934 McGroarty was in the eleventh electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William E. Evans on 3 January 1935. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1939 two legislative sessions. During this time other New Deal legislation of the Federal Government there were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

In 1938 he gave up another candidacy. Instead, he sought unsuccessfully to his party's nomination for the office of Secretary of State of California. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives McGroarty again worked as a journalist. He died on August 7, 1944 in Los Angeles.
