John S. Wells

John Sullivan Wells ( born October 18, 1803 in Durham, Strafford County, New Hampshire; † August 1, 1860 in Exeter, New Hampshire ) was an American politician (Democratic Party) of the State of New Hampshire for a short time in the U.S. Senate represented.

After visiting the Pembroke Academy John Wells studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1828 and commenced practice in Guildhall (Vermont ). There he worked as a lawyer until 1835; the following year he returned to New Hampshire and ran until 1847, a law firm in Lancaster. In addition, he served from 1838 to 1847 as a prosecutor in Coos County. Then he finally settled in Exeter.

During his time in Lancaster Wells began to engage in political activities. From 1839 to 1841 he sat in the House of Representatives from New Hampshire, recently he had there held the office of Speaker. In 1847 he served as Attorney General of the State; 1851 to 1852 he was a member and President of the Senate of New Hampshire. Finally, he was appointed after the death of Moses Norris for U.S. Senator. His term began in Washington on January 16, 1855, already ended on 3 March of that year, when he was relieved from the chosen successor James Bell. Wells returned to Exeter, where he died in 1860.
