John Schwartzman

Marc John Schwartzman ( born October 18, 1960 in Los Angeles, California) is an American cinematographer.

Life and work

John Schwartzman is the son of lawyer Jack Schwartzman (1932-1994) from his first marriage with Judith Feldman. His father later married Francis Ford Coppola's sister Talia Shire; from this second marriage originate John Schwartzman's half-brothers, Jason Schwartzman and Robert Schwartzman, who were both musicians and actors.

Schwartzman graduated from the University of Southern California, where he specialized in the camera work. After a few student films in the early 1980, he turned in 1988 with his childhood friend Michael Bay initially numerous commercials and music videos. From 1995 he was also in several feature films Bays behind the camera.

Awards (selection)

  • In 2004 he was nominated for his work on Seabiscuit for an Oscar.
  • For the same film, he was honored in 2004 with the ASC Award from the American Society of Cinematographers.
