John Shaffer

John Wilson Shaffer (* 1827 in Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania, † October 31, 1870 in Salt Lake City, Utah ) was an American politician ( Republican).

U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant appointed him in March 1870 governor of the Utah territory. He held the office until his sudden death on 31 October 1870. During his short tenure, he did away with any law, published by the Federal Government as a rebellion. This affected the Mormons in general. His rigid approach resulted in a conflict with other officials in Utah.
