John Sharkey, Baron Sharkey

John Kevin Sharkey, Sharkey Baron, of Niton Undercliff, in the County of the Isle of Wight (* September 24, 1947 ) is a British managers and politicians of the Liberal Democrats, who is a life peer member of the House of Lords since 2010.

Life

After attending school and studying Sharkey worked at the advertising agency Benton & Bowles and then at KMP, before he moved to Saatchi & Saatchi in 1984. There he was first deputy chairman in 1986 and then in 1987 Managing Director. He was also CEO of Broad Street Group and BDDP and was between 1990 and 1997 Founding Chairman and Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of Bainsfair Sharkey Trott (BST - BBDP ). Following the merger of BST- BBDP with GGT Advertising 1997-1998 he was Chairman of the resulting advertising agency BBDP GGT. Since 1998 he has been Managing Director of Manpower Europe plc.

Sharkey was chairman of the election campaign, the Liberal Democrats for the general election on May 6, 2010. Through a Letters Patent dated 20 December 2010 Sharkey was as a life peer with the title Baron Sharkey, of Niton Undercliff, in the County of the Isle of Wight in ennobled. Shortly afterwards, was on 21 December 2010 his Introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords. In the upper house he belongs to the Group of the Liberal Democrats. He was also director of the 2011 campaign YES! To Fairer Votes for suffrage referendum in the UK.

In 2013, he brought a motion for rehabilitation Alan Turing into a House of Lords. Sharkey had studied in mathematics at Manchester Turing 's only doctoral Robin Gandy in the 1960s.
