John Sherwood (athlete)

John Sherwood ( born June 4, 1945 in Selby ) is a former British hurdler, who specializes in the 400-meter distance.

In 1967 he won the silver medal at the Universiade. The following year, he won at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City with his personal best time of 49.0 s the bronze medal behind compatriot David Hemery, who 's set a world record with 48.1, and the German Gerhard Hennige ( 49.0 s ). In the 4 x 400 - meter relay, he came up with the British team to fifth place.

A silver medal at the European Athletics Championships 1969 in Athens in 1970 by a gold medal at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, where he also won the 4 x 400 meters relay with the English team bronze. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he left in the flow.

Four times he was English champion over 440 yards hurdles and 400 m hurdles (1966, 1967, 1969, 1971).

John Sherwood launched for Birchfield Harriers. He is with the long jumper Sheila Sherwood (born Parkin ) married.
