John Ssebaana Kizito

John Ssebaana Kizito ( born 1934 in Luwero District ) is a Ugandan politician.

Life

He studied at Makerere University and the University of Oregon Economics. 1965-1980 he worked as chairman of the National Insurance Corporation ( Social Insurance Company ). 1980 to 1985 he was Member of Parliament for Kampala West. Under Museveni, he was from 1986 to 1987 Minister of Regional Cooperation, then to 1989, Minister of cooperatives and marketing, and finally from 1989 to 1991 Minister of Housing and Urban Development. From 1999 to 2005 he was mayor of the Ugandan capital Kampala.

Ssebaana is also the chairman of the Democratic Party ( DP) and was the candidate of that party in the presidential elections on 23 February 2006, in which he could win but only 1.58 percent of the vote.
