John Stanley Marshall

John Stanley Marshall ( born August 28, 1941 in London), better known as John Marshall, is an English drummer of the Modern Jazz, who has worked in a number of important groups of the English scene.

Marshall had after his studying psychology at the University of Reading and teaching, among others at Philly Joe Jones in 1964 his first engagement at the Blues Incorporated by Alexis Korner. He then worked at Graham Collier ( 1965-1970 ), Michael Garrett, Michael Gibbs and Mike Westbrook. He was a founding member of the jazz-rock band Nucleus, where he played from 1969 to 1971, and has worked with various jazz and rock musicians, including Arthur Brown, Georgie Fame, Joe Harriott, Chris Spedding and Centipede. In the seventies he worked with Jack Bruce, Soft Machine and Hugh Hopper, the Spontaneous Music Orchestra, John Surman, Charlie Mariano, Arild Andersen, and Eberhard Weber's Colours Volker Kriegel ( 1977-1981 ). Later he worked with Gil Evans, Uli Becker Hoff, Wolfgang Mirbachstrasse and the aforementioned musicians.

Since 1999 he has worked with other former Soft Machine members in several Soft Machine - related projects, such as soft Somewhere, Softworks and Soft Machine Legacy. He also acted as accompanist for singers such as Sarah Vaughan, Leon Thomas, Elaine Delmar Karin Krog or.
