John Stears

John Stears ( August 25, 1934 in Uxbridge, England, † 28 June 1999 in Los Angeles, USA ) was a double award winning an Oscar film technician who specializes in visual effects and special effects.

Life

Stears went from 1945 to 1949 at the Swakelys Secondary Modern School in Ickenham to school. He studied art at the Harrow School and Technology at a school in Southall. Early in his career Stears worked on some with James Bond movies where he was usually always the same team, for example, Ben Snow as an engineer and for the effects on the ground surrounded. Stears also claimed that he knew nothing of his Oscar nomination for fireball. He learned it was supposed only from a friend in the United States. Stears was the creator of many now world famous movie objects, such as the Aston Martin DB 5 for the Bond films, the lightsabers from Star Wars, Luky Skywalker's speeder, the Death Star, and the robots C3PO and R2- D2. He liked to build model airplanes in gigantic scales and also flew with them. Stears died on 28 June 1999, the birthday of his wife, Brenda, a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. He left two daughters: Janet, who now works as a special effects technician, production manager, writer and producer and Jacqueline, who is employed by Disney. He was also the brother of Andy Stears, who is also active as a sound engineer in the film industry.
