John Stoll

Johann " John " Leslie C. Stoll (born 13 December 1913 in London, † 25 June 1990) was a British art director and production designer, who at the Oscar ceremony 1963 Oscar for Best Production Design in the color film Lawrence of Arabia ( 1962) won.

Life

Stoll began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1947 with the film The Courtneys of Curzon Street and worked until 1989 at the scenic features of almost 100 films.

At the Academy Awards in 1963, he was awarded with John Box and Dario Simoni for Best Production Design in Lawrence of Arabia ( 1962) directed by David Lean with Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness and Anthony Quinn in the lead roles.

In addition, he was awarded in 1980 with art director Karel Vacek a nomination for the Emmy for outstanding art direction in a short series or a series Special for by the Columbia Broadcasting System ( CBS) produced episode on the Western Front (1979 ) the series Hallmark Hall of Fame.
