John Sullivan (Oklahoma)

John A. Sullivan ( born January 1, 1965 in Tulsa, Oklahoma ) is an American politician ( Republican). Between 2002 and 2013 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Sullivan attended Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa and then studied economics at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Since 1992 he has worked in the real estate market.

Between 1995 and 2002 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Oklahoma. On 8 January 2002, he was elected in a by-election in the first electoral district of the state in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he succeeded the retiring Steve Largent on February 15, 2002. After he was confirmed in each case at the next elections with a clear absolute majority, he can implement his mandate in the U.S. Congress today. His current term of office runs until January 3, 2011 In his last re-election so far in 2008 it reached 66 percent of the vote. ; his Democratic counterpart candidate Georgianna Oliver came to 34 percent.

Sullivan was a member of the Committee for Trade and Energy and the Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, which is concerned with the problems of global Erwärumg and independence of energy producers and suppliers. John Sullivan was considered one of the most conservative members of Congress; it is counted to the right wing of the Republicans. He is against abortion and stem cell research. He is also against the restriction of firearms legislation and is committed to a border fence between the United States and Mexico to prevent illegal border crossings. Sullivan supported the passage of the USA PATRIOT Act and is against a rapid withdrawal of troops from Iraq. During the administration of President George W. Bush, he has agreed in Congress to 100 % the proposals of the President. In 2012, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

John Sullivan is married to Judy Beck, with whom he has four children.
