John T. Morrison

John Tracy Morrison ( born December 25, 1860, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, † December 20, 1915 in Boise, Idaho ) was an American politician and 1903-1905 Governor of the State of Idaho.

Early years

John Morrison attended to 1887 the Wooster University and then studied until 1890 at Cornell Law School Law. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began in Caldwell, Idaho to work in his new profession. In this place, he was also active in the Presbyterian church. He was also involved in the founding of the College of Idaho. After the opening of this institution, he taught there for two years the subjects of English and History. Between 1893 and 1904 he was chairman of the board of trustees of the college.

Political career

Morrison was a member of the Republican Party. In 1896 he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives from Idaho. Between 1897 and 1900 he was on the board of his party in Idaho. In 1902 he was elected against incumbent Frank W. Hunt as the new governor of his state. This office he held from January 5, 1903 to January 2, 1905. During this time, a food safety law was passed. In addition, the weights and measures in Idaho were reviewed. In 1904, Morrison missed his party's nomination for the gubernatorial elections. Therefore, he retired in January 1905 from the Office.

After his governorship Morrison withdrew from politics and worked as a lawyer again. He died in December 1915., With his wife Grace Darling Mackey he had two children.
