John Benjamin Toshack (born 22 March 1949 in Cardiff ) is a Welsh former football player and current coach

Career as a player

The center forward Toshack began his professional career at the age of 16 years at Cardiff City. In 1970 he moved to FC Liverpool. Toshack scored 96 goals for Liverpool. His career, however, was frequently interrupted by injuries, so he had to end his career in 1978. During this time he won in 1973, 1976 and 1977 respectively, the English Championship, the 1974 FA Cup and 1973 and 1976 respectively to the UEFA Cup. The great success of the Liverpool team in the European Cup of Champions he could no longer celebrate then. In the final in 1977 against Borussia Mönchengladbach he was missing due to injury, which then led to the termination of his career in February 1978. For the Welsh national football team, he scored 13 goals in 40 games.

Career as a coach

1979 returned Toshack as manager back to Wales and Swansea City led from the fourth to the first division. Between 1984 and 1997 John Toshack worked as a trainer on the Iberian Peninsula and coached Sporting Lisbon, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña. After a two-year commitment in Turkey with Besiktas Istanbul, he returned to Spain to Real Madrid. However, in 1999, the people of Madrid on leave him after nearly nine months of activity. Similarly short his activity was in 2000 at the French club AS Saint- Étienne. In 2004, he also trained Real Murcia.

In 1994, he was coach of the Welsh national team for 41 days. From November 2004 to September 2010 he again served in this post. In August 2011 he was appointed the Macedonian Association for the head coach of the national team. After there had been disagreements because Toshacks refusal to relocate his residence to Macedonia, between him and the Macedonian Association, he stepped back in August 2012 by the Office of National Trainers.
