John Tyler, Sr.

John Tyler, Sr. ( born February 28, 1747 Charles City County, Virginia; † January 6, 1813 in Charles City, Virginia ) was an American politician ( Democratic- Republican), judges, plantation owner and governor of Virginia.

He was the father of the 10th President of the United States, John Tyler. Tyler studied law in Williamsburg at the College of William & Mary, where his friend Thomas Jefferson was his roommate (also Patrick Henry was one of his friends ), and practiced at the District Court. After the Declaration of Independence he was a member of the Lower House of Virginia. 1786, he was appointed judge of the Seeger Report Creation and then also a judge at the Court of Appeals of Virginia. After the restructuring of the court system, he was appointed judge of the Supreme Court. 1808 Tyler was elected Governor of Virginia and in 1811 he became a judge at the Federal District Court for the District of Virginia. He died on 6 January 1813.
