John V. Evans

John Victor Evans ( born January 18, 1925 in Malad City, Oneida County, Idaho) is an American politician and served from 1977 to 1987 Governor of the State of Idaho. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

Evans was first elected to the Senate in 1952 from Idaho. 1954 and 1956, he succeeded in re-election, said he was Senate Majority Leader from 1956. 1960 Evans was elected mayor of his native city. He held until 1966 this office. In 1968 he returned to the Senate from Idaho and was there from 1969 to 1974 minority leader. In 1974 he was elected lieutenant governor. As Cecil D. Andrus resigned in January 1977 as governor, to be Minister of the Interior of the United States, Evans moved according to the office for him. In the elections of 1978 and 1982 he was confirmed in each case. 1986 Evans ran for the U.S. Senate, but had to admit defeat Republican Steve Symms. Andrus followed Evans in 1987 after on the post of governor.

Evans retired from politics in 1987 and president of DL Evans Bank, a native to Idaho bank. Currently, Evans lives in Burley.
