John Van Denburgh

John Van Denburgh ( born August 23, 1872 in San Francisco, California, † October 24, 1924 in Honolulu, Hawaii) was an American herpetologist.

Life

He was born in 1872 in San Francisco and enrolled in 1891 at Stanford University a. In 1895, he expanded the field of Herpetology California Academy of Sciences. 1897, the title he was awarded Ph. D. from Stanford University. In addition, he obtained in 1902 a MUDr. at Johns Hopkins University, but returned as a practicing doctor back to San Francisco and continued his work as curator of the herpetological collections of the California Academy of Sciences on.

After the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, he worked in the reconstruction of the lost herpetological collections through new discoveries and also through the purchase of other collections. Among other things, he published in 1922, the two-volume work, The Reptiles of Western North America.

He died in 1924 while vacationing in the Hawaiian Islands.
